Red Porphyry Paver

Red porphyry is a rare dense stone perfect as paving stone. It bears a striking red and purple hue that commanded great interest throughout history, most prominently during the imperial period in Rome. Red porphyry became a symbol of luxury and power throughout the long history of this region.

It is a type of volcanic igneous rock, which along with granite and other rock formations, make up approximately 95% of the world’s “crust.”  It is different than granite and is made up of over 70% silica, about 14% alumna, 8% alkali and small percentages of iron, calcium and magnesium.

Red Porphyry pavers, have high wear resistance and surface regularity that allows comfortable foot traffic.  These pavers have an even, yet rough surface, which maintains a non slippery property its whole life.  They are ADA compliant – making it an ideal choice for commercial and residential use alike. Red Porphyry is unaffected by freezing and thawing, and because of its high resistance to chemicals, it is particularly recommended for public areas, including plazas, sidewalks, pool decks, fountains and parks.  Maintenance costs are very low.

Red Porphyry will vary accordingly, in mixed reds, mixed grays and red-brown variations. It can be cut into many size options in cobblestone, pavers, irregular flagging steps,  tiles, borders and wall coverings.  It is available with sawn or snap cut edges, in surfaces that are natural, or finished with flaming, honing, polishing, sandblasting or bush-hammering. Red Porphyry is one of the more cost-effective natural stone paving products available.
